Stanton, DE (SportsNetwork.com) – The 78th edition of the $750,000 Delaware
Handicap (Del ‘Cap) at Delaware Park will be conducted on Saturday, July 18.
The track announced its complete stakes schedule Wednesday.
“The Delaware Handicap has always been an important date on the national filly
and mare stake schedule and last year was no exception,” said Executive
Director of Racing John Mooney.
Last year’s Del ‘Cap, run at 1 1/4 miles, was won in an upset by Belle
Gallantey over the favored Princess of Sylmar. Belle Gallantey would go on to
capture the Beldame Handicap at Belmont Park.
“With her impressive win over Princess of Sylmar, Belle Gallantey established
herself as a major contender in the division last year and I congratulate her
connections on their successful 2014 campaign,” Mooney continued. “We look
forward to another exciting Delaware Handicap in 2015.”
Coming up one week before the Del ‘Cap will be the $300,000 Delaware Oaks on
Saturday, July 11. The 2014 running was won by Fortune Pearl for trainer
Graham Motion.
The 78th season of live racing at Delaware Park will feature 81 days with the
meet starting on Saturday, May 16 and concluding on Saturday, Oct. 17.
