Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Eclipse Award champion American Pharoah is
quickly approaching his 3-year-old debut with a likely start in the San Felipe
Stakes on March 7 at Santa Anita.
“Either that or the Rebel,” Hall of Fame trainer Baffert said. “He looks good.
He’ll come around quick. We have the Rebel (March 14 at Oaklawn Park) and the
San Felipe. If all goes well, he’ll be in one of those.”
Owned by Zayat Stables, American Pharoah has not started since winning the
FrontRunner Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 27. He also won the Del Mar
Futurity after finishing fifth in his debut race last August. American Pharoah
was forced to miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile on Nov. 1 due to a suspensory-
related injury.
The 3-year-old had his first published workout this past Monday since last
Oct. 26. He covered three furlongs in 36 1/5 seconds over Santa Anita’s main
track.
