Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Eclipse Award winner American Pharoah put
in a workout Sunday morning at Santa Anita in preparation for the Arkansas
Derby on April 11.
Trained by Bob Baffert, American Pharoah worked five furlongs in 58.60
seconds. The 3-year-old colt galloped out six furlongs in 1:10 4/5.
“Pharoah went really nice,” Baffert said. “He just cruised around there.”
Baffert also had One Lucky Dane work six furlongs for Saturday’s Santa Anita
Derby. The colt went six furlongs in 1:13.40 under jockey Rafael Bejarano who
will have the mount on Saturday.
“One Lucky Dane went really nice, he looked really good. He was finishing up
nice, so it looks like the race (on March 19) didnt take anything out of
him,” Baffert said.
Here are the probable starters for the 1 1/8-mile Santa Anita Derby: Dortmund,
Martin Garcia; Prospect Park, Kent Desormeaux; Bolo, Mike Smith; One Lucky
Dane, Rafael Bejarano; Cross the Line, Juan Hernandez; and Bad Read Sanchez,
Mario Gutierrez.
The race offers 100 points to the winner in the Kentucky Derby points system.
