Beholder recovered after spiking fever

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Two-time Eclipse Award winner Beholder has
been examined and is fully recovered after spiking a fever in October that
forced her to be withdrawn from defending her title in this year’s Breeders’
Cup Distaff.

Trained by Richard Mandella for Spendthrift Farm, Beholder had x-rays of her
lungs which came back “perfect.”

“I’ve sent her to Julie Adair Stack’s facility in Chino,” Mandella said.
“She’ll be there a couple weeks just to get the edge off and get started back
jogging. Then I’ll bring her back. She looks like 10 million dollars.”

Beholder, champion 2-year-old filly of 2012 and last year’s champion 3-year-
old filly, won her second straight Zenyatta Stakes on Sept. 27 at Santa Anita.
The 4-year-old filly won last year’s Distaff by 4 1/4 lengths over Close
Hatches.

She has won 10 of 15 starts, including the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
Fillies, for $3,368,300.
