California Chrome headed to Dubai World Cup

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Reigning Horse of the Year California Chrome
will make his next start in the $10 million Dubai World Cup on March 28 after
finishing second to Shared Belief in Saturday’s San Antonio Stakes at Santa
Anita.

“He’s going to Dubai,” trainer Art Sherman said Sunday morning. “We’re
preparing for that. The horse came out of the race well and ate up good.”

Owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, California Chrome was the 7-5 second
pick behind even-money favorite Shared Belief for the 1 1/8-mile stakes. Last
year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner had the lead at the top of the
stretch but couldn’t hold off Shared Belief who posted a 1 1/2-length win.

“He tried hard,” Sherman said. “We’ll hook up again.”

The two raced against each other in last November’s Breeders’ Cup Classic won
by Bayern. California Chrome finished third with Shared Belief, the 2013
champion 2-year-old, fourth. Bayern missed Saturday’s race with an injury.

California Chrome has nine wins from 17 starts and $4,322,650.
