Constitution injured will miss Dubai World Cup

Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) – Donn Handicap winner Constitution
is injured and will miss running in the $10 million Dubai World Cup on March
28.

Owned by WinStar Farm and Twin Creeks Racing, Constitution was found on Sunday
to have a little heat and soreness in his left shin following training last
Saturday at Palm Beach Downs.

“After breezing him on Saturday, we detected some heat and slight soreness in
his left shin on Sunday morning,” said trainer Todd Pletcher. “With the
Breeders’ Cup as our main goal, we decided to take the conservative approach
for now and not ship him to Dubai.”

Constitution defeated Lea last month to win the Donn at Gulfstream Park by
three-quarters of a length.

“Constitution is a tremendous stallion prospect, and we want to be very
careful with him. It doesn’t make sense to push him and send him overseas
now,” said WinStar President and CEO Elliott Walden.

The 4-year-old colt has career earnings of $1,004,096 with four wins from
six career starts.

The colt won last year’s Florida Derby but missed the Triple Crown races with
an injury. He came back in October with a fourth in an allowance race at
Belmont Park and was third to Hoppertunity in the Clark Handicap at Churchill
Downs.
