Del Mar’s drainage system gets update with new dirt track

Del Mar, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Approximately 15,000 tons worth of blue
granite stones have been removed from Del Mar’s main track as the conversion
continues to a dirt track from synthetic.

All of the synthetic Polytrack material that made up the main track surface
for the past eight years was cleared away to allow the removal of the stone
sub-base of the main track.

On Monday, the drainage system began to be updated with digging of the inside
drainage channel. The next step is the installation and grading of the
decomposed granite sub-surface that allows for an inside bevel for drainage
purposes.

In the final weeks of March work crews will transport and position – the
actual laying down of the dirt – an estimated 17,000 cubic yards of “El
Segundo sand” as the final part of the track conversion process.
