Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Leading 2-year-old colt Dortmund came out of
last week’s $500,000 Los Alamitos Futurity in good shape and is ready for his
3-year-old season.
“He ran a good race, but I think he ran better the time before,” trainer Bob
Baffert said about the son of Big Brown’s photo finish decision at Los
Alamitos. “I shipped him back and forth from three different tracks (Santa
Anita, Churchill Downs and Los Alamitos), but he still got the win. He’s a
good horse. He got some schooling (in the Futurity). He got behind horses and
did everything we wanted him to do.”
The chestnut colt has banked $359,400 following his first stakes win and
remains undefeated in three starts. Dortmund was the 9-1 top choice among the
2-year-olds listed in last month’s opening Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
