New Orleans. LA (SportsNetwork.com) – Golden Soul, 2013 Kentucky Derby runner-
up, will go for his third straight win Friday in the $50,000 Buddy Diliberto
Memorial Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Trained by Dallas Stewart for Charles Fipke, Golden Soul will start the 1
1/16-mile turf race from post 5 in the nine-horse field. The Diliberto
Memorial will be the 4-year-old chestnut colt’s fifth consecutive grass start.
Golden Soul will be making his first stakes start since finishing sixth last
June in Belmont Park’s Brooklyn Handicap. He began 2014 with a fifth in the
New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds and was seventh on May 2 in Churchill
Downs’ Alysheba.
Last year, Golden Soul rallied from far back to finish second to Orb in the
Kentucky Derby as a 34-1 longshot. Prior to the Run for the Roses, the colt
was fourth in the Louisiana Derby behind Revolutionary.
