Hollendorfer to saddle three in California Derby

Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer
will saddle three of the eight 3-year-olds entered for Saturday’s $100,000
California Derby at Golden Gate Fields.

The 1 1/16-mile stakes is the local prep for the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby
at Golden Gate Fields on Feb. 14. The 1 1/8-mile El Camino Real Derby is part
of the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” series.

Hollendorfer, who won last year’s El Camino Real with Tamarando, will send out
Steel and Cross the Line, both partly owned by the trainer, along with Stand
and Salute,

Steel will start from post 2 with Leslie Mawring aboard the chestnut gelding
for the first time. Steel has won two of his three starts, all at Golden Gate.

Cross the Line has the inside post with Juan Hernandez in the saddle for a
second straight time aboard the chestnut colt. Cross the Line broke his maiden
on Dec. 26 at the track after finishes of second and third.

Stand and Salute, owned by Red Oak Stable, will be ridden by Hall of Fame
jockey Russell Baze from post 4. The chestnut colt won the Gold Rush Stakes at
Golden Gate on Dec. 6 for his second straight victory.

Here is the field for the California Derby in post position order: Cross the
Line, Juan Hernandez; Steel, Leslie Mawing; Sandor the Hound, Inoel Beato;
Stand and Salute, Russell Baze; Soul Driver, Tyler Baze; Midnight Destiny,
Dennis Carr; Broughton Kitten, Frank Alvarado and Rye Patch, Ricardo Gonzalez.

The California Derby has an approximate post time of 6:45 p.m. ET.
