International Star works ahead of Derby

Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Kentucky Derby contender International
Star, owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, worked Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Winner of the Louisiana Derby, International Star covered five furlongs on a
fast track in 1:01.80 and galloped out six furlongs in 1:15 with Miguel Mena
riding.

Trained by Mike Maker, International Star leads the Kentucky Derby points list
with 171. He swept Fair Grounds’ stakes series for 3-year-olds with wins in
the Lecomte and Risen Star Stakes before claiming the Louisiana Derby on
March 28.

Maker may have a second 3-year-old in the Run for the Roses on May 2.
Firespike, owned by Skychai Racing and partners, is now 24th on the points
list with 10 after One Lucky Dane was injured during a Saturday workout at
Santa Anita.
