Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Friday morning had the four Todd
Pletcher-trained Kentucky Derby contenders stabled at Churchill Downs put in
four-furlong workouts eight days ahead of the 141st Run for the Roses.
Florida Derby winner Materiality and Itsaknockout both covered the half-mile
distance in 48 seconds. Stanford, the Louisiana Derby runner-up, went the four
furlongs in 48.40 seconds and Madefromlucky went in 48.60 seconds over a fast
main track.
At Keeneland, Blue Grass Stakes winner Carpe Diem galloped about 1 1/2 times
around the main track with exercise rider Patti Krotenko. The colt is trained
by Pletcher for WinStar Farm and Stonestreet Stables.
“We’re real excited about next weekend,” said WinStar Racing Manager Elliott
Walden.
Working out at Keeneland was Frammento, fourth in the Blue Grass on April 4.
With jockey Joe Bravo riding, Frammento worked four furlongs in 48 seconds and
galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.40.
“It was very professional, very even. That’s what you want,” Hall of Fame
trainer Nick Zito said. “He’s a true mile and a quarter horse. If he gets in
there, he’ll do some damage going a mile and a quarter.”
Frammento is 21st among point earners for the Kentucky Derby. Zito said
Frammento would ship to Churchill Tuesday.
Santa Anita Derby third-place finisher Bolo worked five furlongs in 59.60
seconds on Santa Anita’s main track Friday morning under jockey Rafael
Bejarano. Carla Gaines, who trains Bolo for Golden Pegasus Racing Inc. and
Earle I. Mack, said the colt will leave Sunday for Louisville.
