Shared Belief returned to Golden Gate Fields after injury

Berkeley, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Top rated thoroughbred Shared Belief has
been returned to Golden Gate Fields after his unfortunate trip for last week’s
$1.5 million Charles Town Classic in West Virginia.

Shared Belief, trained by co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer, has a non-displaced
fracture on the point of the right hip. An injury he suffered during the
running of the 1 1/8-mile Classic. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith pulled up
the 4-year-old gelding on the backstretch of Charles Town preventing any
further injury.

“A heartfelt thank you to Mike Smith for protecting Shared Belief and taking
care of him as he always has. Mike’s quick reaction is a big reason Shared
Belief is doing as well as he is right now,” co-owner Jim Rome posted on his
Jungle Racing Facebook page.

Shared Belief was examined at the Spurlock Equine Clinic in Virginia and was
returned to his home at Golden Gate Fields on Wednesday. According to Jungle
Racing, the gelding will be shipped to Pegasus Training Center in Washington
State.

Shared Belief, the 2-year-old champion male of 2013, had impressive victories
in his first two starts this year, both at Santa Anita. He defeated 2014 Horse
of the Year California Chrome in the San Antonio Invitational on Feb. 7 and
four weeks later captured the Santa Anita Handicap by more than four lengths.

The 4-year-old gelding has won 10 of 12 starts for $2,932,200.
