Shared Belief to start next in Big ‘Cap

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) – Shared Belief came out of Saturday’s win in
the San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita in good shape and will now be pointed
toward the Santa Anita Handicap on March 7

“Shared Belief was excellent this morning,” assistant trainer Dan Ward said
Sunday. “He ate all his feed. What happened in the past is not important. The
only thing is the future, and that would include the Santa Anita Handicap.

“He’ll go back to Golden Gate tomorrow, train up there, probably come back the
Wednesday before the race, keeping the same schedule as in the past.”

Trained and co-owned by Jerry Hollendorfer, Shared Belief defeated 2014 Horse
of the Year California Chrome by 1 1/2 lengths and covered the 1 1/8 miles in
1:48.45.

“California Chrome has a big following, deservedly so,” Hollendorfer said
Saturday. “He deserved to be Horse of the Year. If things had gone a little
bit different (in the Breeders’ Cup Classic), I might have got a chance, but
you can’t always get things to go your way … I’m proud of Art (trainer Art
Sherman) and his horse, and I’m very proud of my horse and my partnership.”

Shared Belief was a finalist for 2014 champion 3-year-old. He finished third
in the voting behind California Chrome and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner
Bayern.

Shared Belief finished fourth in the $5 million Classic at Santa Anita on
Nov. 1. He posted wins in 2014 in the Los Alamitos Derby, Pacific Classic and
Awesome Again Stakes.

A foot injury prevented the gelding from competing in the Triple Crown races.
Shared Belief began 2014 with an allowance victory at Golden Gate Fields on
May 26. He closed his 2014 campaign with a hard fought victory in Santa
Anita’s Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26.

The gelding, 2013 champion 2-year-old male, has won nine of 10 career starts
for $2,332,200.
