Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) – Calculator has moved into a tie for
second in the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” points system.
The 3-year-old, trained by Peter Miller, won the $100,000 Sham Stakes this
past Saturday at Santa Anita and added 10 points for a total of 14. This has
him tied with Carpe Diem behind El Kabeir who leads with 21 points.
“The water gets deeper from here on out,” Miller said following the Sham win,
“so we’re going to have to step up our game and move forward off of this one.
“We’ll see how the horse comes out, but I wouldn’t rule out coming back in a
month in the Lewis ($150,000 Robert B. Lewis Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on Feb.
7). The timing of it is good and when my horses are good, I like to run them.
He’s good right now so I’m going to run him.”
Sitting at fourth with 12 points is Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner Texas Red
followed by International Star (11), Ocho Ocho Ocho (10), Mr. Z (10), American
Pharoah (10), Daredevil (10), Dortmund (10), Leave the Light On (10) and Lucky
Player (10).
Saturday at Fair Grounds in New Orleans will be the mile, 70 yard Lecomte
Stakes worth 10-4-2-1 in the points standings.
The $2 million 141st Kentucky Derby will be run Saturday, May 2.
